About BorderBetter
Created for Canadians who cross the border
I’m Doug, and I live in South Surrey, British Columbia, near the Canada–U.S. border. I cross into the U.S. regularly, and like many Canadians who live near the border, I often found myself asking the same question: is a U.S. gas run actually worth it?
At first, I would simply compare the Canadian price per litre with the U.S. price per gallon. But I quickly realized that price conversion alone does not tell the whole story.
Whether you actually save money also depends on the CAD/USD exchange rate, foreign-exchange fees, how much fuel you can buy, your vehicle’s fuel economy, the distance travelled, and the cost of making the trip.
That is why I created BorderBetter — to bring those factors together in one calculation and make the trade-offs easier to understand before crossing the border.
BorderBetter starts with cross-border fuel savings. Additional tools are planned for travel, shopping, border conditions, duties, taxes, and trip planning.
